Central Queensland
Contemporary Artists (CQCA)

CQCA are a social group of visual artists made up of various members of the community from young, to young at heart and from all walks of life. The variety of our group enriches our perspective with learners encouraged and challenged by more experienced artists.
We enjoy experimenting with various mediums: linoleum printmaking, etching, batik, papermaking, marbling, as well as watercolour, oil and acylic painting.

The CQCA group formed over 30 years ago to further our art interests and have had our studio in the Walter Reid Cultural Centre since our beginning. Originally, all members were also Flying Art School members. It is from that school that we gained our tuition from some excellent art tutors.

About the group
Wednesday mornings we meet to enjoy our art in a fun and friendly atmosphere. The first Wednesday of each month (except January) is our formal meeting where we plan and discuss exhibitions.
Saturday mornings we encourage those to come along who cannot make it during the week. On other days, Studio 4 is always available for members to use and artists bring their own art materials.
We organise life drawing or other experimental art workshops during some of our meetings in addition to field trips to the river, the gardens and other locations in the region.
Many members have been very successful in a number of Queensland and National art Competitions, appearing in magazines (Australian Artist), lecturing, & conducting art classes and workshops. The annual Cooee Bay Art Workshop is an initiative of CQCA.

Come and visit us
Come in and visit us for a cuppa and view our art work on display. Members stay as long as they wish while involved in art projects, having access to the room at any time to paint or print. Easels, tables and a cupboard of art books and magazines are for use by members.
